EMBRACE YOUR INNER CHAOS

Embrace your inner chaos is a collective exhibition co-produced and co-curated by Facciocose and Jose Martinez, presenting the work of a collective of artists who have investigated the concept of entropy, chaos and transformation.

/ˈentrəpi/ disorder or randomness in the system, τρoπή, "transformation", a measure of disorder, a measure of the system's disorder, the degradation of the matter and energy in the universe, complex order, CHAOS, DISORGANIZATION, RANDOMNESS, a complete lack of order.

The topic of entropy has been fascinating brilliant minds and personalities, who wondered about the meaning and the applications in fields such as physics, anthropology, philosophy or economy. In thermodynamic, entropy refers to the degree of chaos or lack of order in the molecules that constitute a system. The interesting paradox is that this system reaches thermo equilibrium when the chaos, in its particles, reaches his maximum point. More chaos is equal to more equilibrium.

Another of the most remarkable approaches was given by the mathematician Benoit Mandelbrot, who called ‘chaotic’ any deterministic system that is sensitive to changes respect its initial conditions. Also known as “the butterfly effect”, the consequences of these small variations may cause serious changes in the behavior of the system in the long run.

Somehow, we have all experienced the sensation of disorder, where a force seems to drag everything into chaos. Nothing further from reality, the truth is that our lives are already in a process of irremediable chaos, and not only occasionally but permanently.

For this exhibition Facciocose has also created two pieces:

MAKING A CIRCLE

Participatory Installation.

We investigated the Theory of Cyclic Universe, a model of cosmic evolution according to which the universe iteratesthrough infinite cycles of expansion and cooling, each beginning with a “big bang” and ending in a “big crunch".

Making a circle explores the concept of repetition and endless iteration with the attempt of repeating the universe in the shape of a circle. But is this an attempt to repeat the cosmos or to repeat our-self?

During the exhibition the audience is asked to participate to “an endless workshop”: making circles for an endless time.

We intended to demonstrate how the same action, iterated endlessly, creates always different results. According to the Theory of Cyclic Universe, as well as the cosmos will be repeating it’s self, creating new diverse universes, it will never occur to draw the same circle, not even if this action is repeated for infinitive times.

Because of entropy and the "arrow of time", the number of ways to draw a circle will always statistically increase. It will never be possible to stop this process, or to go back to draw the same circle, because a‘system’ can justincrease its entropy and because we know just one way to experience time.

INSIDE

Sensory Box.

INSIDE is a manifestation of complex order. An interactive piece where the audience is invited to enter inside "the box", to play, to stay and to embrace their inner chaos.

“You are invited to come inside, and stay for a while,

OR NOT staying for a while
and listen

or not listen,
and be
or not be,
and move or move.

EMBRACE your inner chaos."

Special thanks to Jose Martinez, who proposed the idea to work on the topic on Entropy, and who has been a great partner in crime. We worked closely and co-produced the Open Call “Embrace your inner chaos” for 10 artists and curated the exhibition.

Thanks to all the 12 artists who participated to the Open Call.

Thanks to this incredible gift that is Creativity and Resiliency and Stubbornness and Openness, that we all have, and we need to nourish.
