TAROT OF WATER:
TOWARDS A POETIC AND ETHIC OF CARE
Tarot of Water is a project that intersects design and participatory performance with critical pedagogy.
We designed a new tarot deck inspired by the Rider Waite Tarot, that holds narratives on planetary water that are based on multi-species relationships, hydrofemminisms and more-than-human intelligences.
In addition to the genealogy of the Tarot of Water, we developed a series of readings that became a space for a participatory performance to take place. But the readings are not a place of hierarchy where the reader is the “holder” of the knowledge and the consultant plays the passive role of the listener. The readings are rather a generative opportunity, and a space for conversation and participation where both the reader and the consultant unpack the meaning of the card together and forge a space for the creation of a new poetic and ethic of care.
